The Bridlewood Estate Zinfandel was aged for 10 months in heavy toasted three-year-old American oak barrels, which added smoky and spicy notes.
Aromas: Blackberries, Asian spices and cedar notes mingle with hints of cigar box and smoke. As the wine breathes, berries, tar and spicy accents emerge.
Flavors: Opens with raspberry, plum and rose petal flavors. Berry jam, roasted meat and toasty oak combine with spices and soft tannins to form a long mid palate. An oily, mouth-filling texture gives way to a clean finish. The moderate acidity and alcohol in this wine will allow it to improve with additional cellaring.
A selection of 100-year-old vines from our home vineyard gave us excellent fruit for the 2007 Estate Zinfandel. Planted on their own roots in shallow limestone soil, these vines are nestled on a southwest-facing hillside, where they bask in abundant sunshine. We preserved the rich concentration of flavor in these grapes by fermenting them in small tanks, where they were punched down by hand three times daily. The wine was aged for 10 months in heavy toasted three-year-old American oak barrels, which added smoky and spicy notes.
